so, people wanted me to make a tumblr tips page! so.. here it is :)
- when should i start doing promos? well, there’s no rule. i suggest around 1,000 followers! but if you do like first 3 or something when you have 500 followers, it might work! see how it goes and start from there!
- how do i get more followers? ask people who check out blogs, to check out your blog! make sure you read the faq page on blogs first (if they have one) cos there is nothing more annoying then getting messages that you don’t want! also participate in promo games, small promo lists etc! that’ll help too.
- how can i get followers faster? getting followers takes time! once you hit a certain number, say 1,000, you’re followers start coming in more easily as people come across your blog more! best way is to participate in promos, double promos etc if you have only a small number of followers.
Every blog is unique in their own way.. but if you want more people to follow etc, try these tips!
- keep your blog clean! delete promos after they have been done. a lot of text actually looks fugly! and might have people thinking if they followed you all they would see in their dash is promotions!
- try keeping your page simple! like a lot of people dislike blogs that have incredibly bright colours as their theme. for example, the colour yellow. get me?
- do NOT self promote on photos. it is incredibly annoying, and pretty much every hates it.
tumblr terminology
- double promo - when you do a joint promo with another blog. e.g. first __ to reblog, must be following ___ & ____
- solo promo - when you promote one person.
- p4p/promo4promo - when two people solo promote eachother!
- continuous promo - when you and the other person keep promoting eachother one after another for a certain amount of times that is decided between you two!
Frequently asked questions ( i will add more questions if i get asked the same ones over and over again )
1. why am i losing followers? people may have lost interest in the things you reblog or they may have changed their blog style.
2. i’m not gaining followers, what am i doing wrong? nothing. there’s days where you will gain none and other days where you will gain a bit! it also varies on how well your blog is known etc.
3. How do you deal with hate? I’ve gotten use to it all tbh. if one person sends me anonymous hate, 10 others follow. For all i know, it could just be the same person sending those messages. Its really up to you how you look at it and what you do. I usually delete the majority of the ones i get as they all say the same thing. just look at it this way - the person sending it, is taking their time to write you a message about how much they hate you etc. that pretty much means they must take a lot of times, looking at you and your blog to point of “flaws” they see.
4. How did you gain so many followers? i started off doing HEAPS of promos! when i reached 1,000 all the followers just came in through promos etc. then i made a few friends and we helped eachother out! Also i’m logged on pretty much the whole time i have my laptop open so that my blogs always active!
5. How do i make a me page?
- Step 1 - Tag “me” or whichever word you want to use in your tags section of the photo
- Step 2 - Go to customize appearance->pages->add a page
- Step 3 - Change standard layout to redirect
- Step 4 - fill in the page url> at the redirect to you type http://(insertyourblognamehere).tumblr.com/tagged/(thewordyoutaggedinyourphoto) > tick show a link to this page and on the left, type what you want the click-through shortcut of this page to come up as on your blog.
- Step 5 - click create page
6. How do i make a FAQ page?
- Step 1 - Go to customize appearance>pages>add a page
- Step 2 - Keep it as standard layout
- Step 3 - Fill out the page URL,page title and tick show link to this page. Then to the left, type what you would want your click-through shortcut to come up as on your blog.
- Step 4 - Fill out the body ( what you want it to say on your FAQ page )
- Step 6 - click create page
